The January 31st Deadline is Over, But You Still Have Options:
Under the Affordable Care Act, you can only apply for health insurance coverage during "Open Enrollment," which is between November 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. However, if you had what is known as a "Qualifying Life Event" you are still eligible to enroll and even get financial help under "Obamacare." What is a Qualifying Life Event?
Simply put If you had a major life change - like if you were recently married/divorced, had or adopted a child, lost a dependant/death in the family, graduated college, changed jobs, moved to a new state, etc. - then you can get coverage outside of the Open Enrollment period.
What if I don't have a Qualifying Life Event? No problem! You can still get what is known as a "Short-Term Plan." Short-Term
Policies can last anywhere from 30 days to 12 months. Please be advised that Short-Term Plans do not meet all the requirements set forth under the Affordable Care Act. They do not cover pre-existing conditions and may or may not guard you from tax penalties. They do however protect you from unforeseen health issues and accidents, which can cause a sizeable financial burden if you are uninsured.
